Hey there, it’s Brad.
It’s Saturday, April 25, 2026, and as I’m sitting here reflecting on the week, one thing keeps coming back to me: the sheer power of words. Not just any words, but the kind of communication that actually moves the needle.
In the world of personal development and business, we talk a lot about "hustle" and "strategy." But let’s be real for a second, you can have the greatest strategy in the world, but if you can’t communicate it, it’s going to sit on a shelf gathering dust. Whether you’re leading a team of fifty or just trying to lead yourself toward a better life, your ability to influence others is directly tied to your mastery of communication.
At Brady Young Change, we live by a specific philosophy. We believe that transformation isn’t a one-time event; it’s a process built on six specific pillars. We call it the CHANGE Framework. Today, I want to dive deep into how the first pillar, Communication, is the engine that makes the whole machine run.
What is the CHANGE Framework?
Before we talk about influence, let’s look at the map. If you’ve read my book, CHANGE, you know that we break down personal and professional evolution into these six areas:
C: Communication (Mastery and Leadership)
H: Habits (The daily actions that define you)
A: Attitude (The lens through which you see the world)
N: Network (The high-performers you surround yourself with)
G: Goals (The roadmap to your destination)
E: Education (The continuous pursuit of knowledge)
While we also focus on Business Decision Making and our weekly Podcasts, these six pillars are the foundation. And everything, I mean everything, starts with Communication.

Why Communication is the Ultimate Leadership Tool
Leadership isn't about the title on your business card. I've met plenty of "CEOs" who couldn't lead a dog to a bone because they lacked the ability to connect. Real leadership is influence. It’s the ability to get people to buy into a vision that doesn’t exist yet.
In my #1 bestselling book, Business Decision Making, I discuss how the quality of your decisions is often limited by the quality of the information you receive. If your communication channels are clogged with fear, ego, or lack of clarity, your decisions will suffer.
Effective communication does three things:
It creates alignment. Everyone knows where they are going.
It builds trust. People follow leaders they understand and trust.
It drives action. High-impact communication doesn't just inform; it inspires movement.
The Pitfalls of "Lazy" Communication
Most people think they are communicating when they are really just "broadcasting." You send an email, you make a post, you bark an order. That’s lazy.
Lazy communication is one-way. It doesn’t account for the receiver’s perspective, their "Attitude" (our third pillar), or the "Network" context. If you want to lead with influence, you have to move away from broadcasting and toward connection.
Actionable Transformation Strategies: How to Master Communication
I don’t want you to just read this and think, "Yeah, Brad’s right." I want you to change something today. Here are three actionable strategies to help you lead with influence using the CHANGE Framework.
1. The "Why" First Protocol
In the CHANGE framework, "Goals" (G) are essential. But when you communicate a goal to someone else, never start with the "what." Start with the "why."
Influence is born when people understand the purpose behind the task. Before you give a directive or share a plan, explain the impact. How does this decision help the team? How does it change the customer’s life? When people understand the why, they become emotionally invested in the how.
2. Radical Active Listening
Communication is 50% talking and 50% listening: but most leaders spend 90% of their time waiting for their turn to speak.
If you want to influence someone, you have to understand their map of the world. In my research for Business Decision Making, I found that the most successful pivots in business history happened because a leader actually listened to the "boots on the ground."
The Strategy: Next time you’re in a meeting, try the "2-to-1" rule. Ask two clarifying questions for every one statement you make. It forces you to listen and makes the other person feel heard. That’s how you build a high-performer inner circle (your Network).
3. The Clarity Filter
Confusion is the enemy of execution. If your team or your family has to guess what you mean, you’ve already lost the influence battle.
The Strategy: Use the "Three-Point Check." At the end of every significant communication, ask the other person: "Just so we’re on the same page, what are your three main takeaways from this?" This ensures the "Education" (E) piece of the framework is actually happening. It prevents costly business mistakes and keeps everyone moving toward the same Goals.

Communication and Your Personal Habits
We often think of communication as something we do with other people. But what about how you communicate with yourself?
Your internal dialogue is the most important "Communication" you will ever have. It sets your "Attitude." If you’re constantly telling yourself you’re not ready or that the market is too tough, you are communicating failure to your subconscious.
To lead others, you must first lead yourself. Build the "Habit" (H) of positive, tactical self-talk. Instead of asking "What if this fails?", ask "What is the next right decision I can make?" This shift in internal communication is a cornerstone of the CHANGE framework.
The ROI of Effective Communication
In Business Decision Making, I break down the ROI of clarity. When communication is clear, projects finish faster, turnover decreases, and profitability increases.
But it’s more than just money. It’s about the culture you create. A culture of influence is one where ideas flow freely, where feedback is seen as a gift (Education), and where everyone is aligned with the vision (Goals).
When you master the "C" in CHANGE, everything else becomes easier. Your habits align with your words. Your attitude improves because you feel understood. Your network grows because people are drawn to clear, confident leaders.
Let’s Keep the Conversation Going
Communication is a muscle. You don’t go to the gym once and expect to be fit for life. You have to work at it every single day.
If you want to dive deeper into these topics, I highly recommend checking out our latest episodes on the podcast. We talk about the real-world application of these pillars and interview high-performers who are out there doing the work.

Final Thoughts for Your Saturday
As you head into the rest of your weekend, take a look at your recent conversations. Where could you have been clearer? Where could you have listened more?
Influence isn’t something you’re born with; it’s something you build through the CHANGE Framework. Start with your communication, and the rest will follow.
Get after it.
