The Simple Trick to Improve Your Daily Habits Right Now Using the CHANGE Framework


Let’s be real for a second. We’ve all been there. It’s 11:00 PM on a Sunday night, and you’re feeling that sudden burst of "New Me" energy. You promise yourself that tomorrow is the day you start waking up at 5:00 AM, hitting the gym for an hour, drinking a gallon of water, and reading fifty pages of a dense business book.

Then Monday morning rolls around. The alarm goes off, the room is cold, and that "New Me" version of yourself feels like a total stranger. You hit snooze. Twice. By noon, the gym is a distant memory, and you’re on your third cup of coffee, wondering why it’s so hard to just change.

I’m Brad Young, and at Brady Young Change, we live and breathe the science of transformation. If you’ve been struggling to make habits stick, I’ve got some good news: It’s not a lack of willpower. It’s a lack of a framework.

Today, we’re diving into the Habits pillar of our eight-step rotation. I’m going to show you the simple trick to overhaul your daily routine using my signature CHANGE Framework. This isn’t just some theoretical fluff; this is the same logic I use in my bestselling book, Business Decision Making, applied to your personal life.

Why Your Habits Are Currently Failing

Most people try to change their lives through sheer force of habit. They treat their brain like a stubborn mule that needs to be whipped into submission. But here’s the thing: your brain is designed for efficiency, not necessarily for your long-term success. It wants to take the path of least resistance.

If you want to win, you have to stop fighting your biology and start outsmarting it. You need a system that makes success inevitable. That’s where the CHANGE Framework comes in.

The CHANGE Framework: A Step-by-Step Guide

The CHANGE Framework is designed to take the guesswork out of personal development. Whether you want to improve your communication, your fitness, or your business decision-making, these six steps are the blueprint.

C – Clarity (Define the "Why" and the "What")

You can’t hit a target you haven't set. Most people fail because their goals are too vague. "I want to be healthier" isn't a habit; it's a wish.

Clarity means being hyper-specific. In my book CHANGE, I talk about the importance of defining the "North Star." Instead of "I want to read more," try "I will read five pages of Business Decision Making every morning while I drink my coffee."

When you have clarity, your brain doesn't have to waste energy deciding what to do. The decision is already made.

H – Hook (The Power of Habit Stacking)

This is the "simple trick" I promised. You already have dozens of habits you do without thinking, brushing your teeth, making coffee, checking your phone. The easiest way to build a new habit is to "hook" it onto an existing one.

This is called habit stacking. The formula is simple: After [Current Habit], I will [New Habit].

  • After I pour my morning coffee, I will write down my three most important tasks for the day.

  • After I close my laptop for work, I will do ten pushups.

  • After I get into bed, I will express gratitude for one thing that happened that day.

By using an existing anchor, you’re piggybacking on the neural pathways already burned into your brain.

A – Atomic Actions (Start Stupidly Small)

We love to go big. We want the Maserati lifestyle on day one. But big changes lead to big resistance. The secret to long-term transformation is making the action so small it’s impossible to say no.

If you want to start a flossing habit, start by flossing just one tooth. Sounds ridiculous, right? But it’s much easier to floss one tooth than to commit to the whole mouth when you’re tired. Once you’re holding the floss, you’ll probably do the rest anyway. The goal is to master the art of showing up.

N – Network (Build Your Inner Circle)

You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. If your network consists of people who complain and settle for mediocrity, your habits will reflect that.

In our Network pillar, we emphasize building a high-performer inner circle. If you want better habits, surround yourself with people who already have them. Join a mastermind, find a mentor, or simply follow leaders who push you to be better. When the people around you consider "excellence" the baseline, you’ll find it much easier to keep up.

G – Growth Mindset (Attitude is Everything)

You’re going to mess up. You’re going to miss a day. The difference between those who succeed and those who quit is their Attitude.

A growth mindset sees a missed habit not as a failure, but as a data point. Ask yourself: Why did I miss it today? Was the cue not obvious enough? Was the task too big? Adjust the system and move forward. Never miss twice. Missing once is an accident; missing twice is the start of a new, bad habit.

E – Evaluate (The Business Decision-Making Logic)

This is where we pull insights from my book, Business Decision Making. In business, you don't just "hope" a strategy works; you look at the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). You should do the same with your life.

Every Sunday, evaluate your week. Did your hooks work? Were your atomic actions small enough? By treating your personal growth like a business operation, you remove the emotion and focus on the results. If a habit isn't sticking, don't blame yourself: optimize the process.

Actionable Transformation Strategies

Ready to put this into practice right now? Don't wait until Monday. Do these three things today:

  1. Identify your "Anchor": Pick one thing you do every single day without fail (e.g., putting on your shoes, opening your email).

  2. Pick one "Atomic Action": What is the smallest possible version of the habit you want to build? (e.g., one minute of meditation, writing one sentence).

  3. Create the Hook: Say it out loud: "After I [Anchor], I will [Atomic Action]."

That’s it. You’ve just used the CHANGE framework to initiate a transformation.

Habits Drive Every Other Pillar

Think about it. You can't improve your Communication without the habit of active listening. You can't improve your Education without the habit of daily learning. You can't make better Business Decision Making choices without the habit of objective analysis.

Habits are the foundation upon which the rest of the Brady Young Change pillars are built. When you master your routine, you master your life.
