The Proven CHANGE Framework: 5 Steps How to Master Your Habits and Transform Your Life

Hey there, it’s Brad Young.

If you’ve been following the journey here at Brady Young Change, you know I’m obsessed with one thing: results. Not the "maybe next year" kind of results, but the tangible, life-altering transformation that happens when you stop leaving your future to chance and start taking control of your daily patterns.

We all want to be better. We want more energy, more money, better relationships, and a business that runs like a well-oiled machine. But here’s the cold, hard truth: You don’t rise to the level of your goals; you fall to the level of your systems. In my book CHANGE, I dive deep into why most people fail to make lasting shifts. They try to overhaul their entire existence in a weekend, burn out by Tuesday, and are back to their old ways by Friday.

Today, I’m breaking down the Proven CHANGE Framework. These are the five steps you need to master your habits and finally transform your life.

Why Habits Are the Ultimate Currency

Think of your habits as the interest on a savings account. If you’re depositing small, positive actions every day, that interest compounds. Before you know it, you’re wealthy, not just in money, but in health, mindset, and influence. Conversely, bad habits are like credit card debt; they compound against you until you’re bankrupt.

Mastering your habits isn't about willpower. Willpower is a finite resource. It’s about strategy. It’s about making the right decisions once so you don't have to make them every single morning.

Geometric pillars showing the compounding growth and strategy of building successful habits.

Step 1: The Habitual Audit (The 'C' in CHANGE: Clarity)

You can't fix what you don't measure. The first step in the CHANGE framework is gaining absolute clarity on where you are right now. Most people move through their day on autopilot. They scroll social media for twenty minutes before getting out of bed, grab a sugary coffee, and react to emails all day rather than being proactive.

Actionable Strategy: For the next 24 hours, I want you to do a "Habit Audit." Every single thing you do, from the moment you wake up to the moment you hit the pillow, write it down. Don't judge it. Just log it.

Once you see it on paper, categorize them:

  • (+) Positive habits that move you toward your goals.

  • (-) Negative habits that hold you back.

  • (=) Neutral habits (like brushing your teeth).

As I discuss in Business Decision Making, clarity is the precursor to any high-level executive move. You wouldn't run a company without looking at the P&L statement; don't run your life without looking at your habit audit.

Step 2: Anchor Your New Identity (The 'A' in CHANGE: Attitude)

This is where the mindset shift happens. Most people focus on what they want to achieve (losing 20 pounds, making six figures). But real change happens when you focus on who you want to become.

If you say, "I’m trying to quit smoking," you still identify as a smoker. If you say, "I’m not a smoker," you’ve shifted your identity. Your attitude toward yourself dictates your actions. In my book CHANGE, I talk about the "Identity Anchor." You need to anchor your habits to the person you want to be.

Actionable Strategy: Pick one habit you want to start. Instead of saying "I want to go to the gym," say "I am an athlete." An athlete doesn't skip workouts because it’s raining. An athlete fuels their body for performance. When your attitude aligns with your identity, the habit becomes a natural byproduct.

Step 3: Engineer Your Environment (The 'N' in CHANGE: Network)

Your environment is stronger than your willpower. Every single time. If you want to eat healthy but your pantry is full of junk food, you’re going to lose that battle eventually.

This extends to your Network. You’ve heard me say it a thousand times: you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. If your inner circle is complacent, you will be too. If they are high-performers who hold themselves to a standard of excellence, you’ll naturally level up.

Actionable Strategy: Do a "Network Purge." Look at the people you interact with daily. Do they inspire you, or do they drain you? Start seeking out environments, whether it’s a mastermind, a high-end gym, or a professional organization, where your "new normal" is the baseline for everyone else.

Step 4: The 1% Education Rule (The 'E' in CHANGE: Education)

Continuous learning is the secret weapon of the elite. But here’s the catch: most people consume information without application. That’s just entertainment.

The CHANGE framework requires you to dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to Education that specifically helps you master your craft or your mindset. Whether it’s listening to our latest insights on the PodCentral Publishing Network or reading a chapter of a research-backed book, you need to feed your mind.

Actionable Strategy: Use "Habit Stacking." Link your education to a habit you already have. Listen to a personal development podcast while you’re driving or at the gym. This turns "dead time" into "growth time."

Speaking of growth time, I love catching up on the latest industry trends while I’m behind the wheel of the Maserati. It’s about creating an environment of success in every aspect of your life.

Step 5: Decisive Execution (Business Decision Making)

Finally, you have to pull the trigger. In Business Decision Making, I highlight that the most successful CEOs don't necessarily make the "perfect" decision every time, they make decisions fast and then adjust.

Habit mastery is the same. Stop waiting for the "perfect" Monday to start. The CHANGE framework is about Execution. You need to take the audit, the identity, the environment, and the education, and turn them into a singular, decisive action today.

Actionable Strategy: The 2-Minute Rule. If a new habit takes less than two minutes, do it now. Want to start reading? Read one page. Want to start running? Put on your shoes and walk to the end of the driveway. The goal is to master the art of showing up. Once you show up, the transformation follows.

Putting it All Together

Transformation isn't a lightning bolt that hits you out of the blue. It’s a slow-burn process of intentional choices. By applying the CHANGE framework, Clarity, Attitude, Network, Education, and Decisive Execution, you stop being a victim of your circumstances and start being the architect of your life.

Remember, your life today is the sum of your habits from the last five years. What do you want your life to look like five years from now? Start building those habits today.

If you’re ready to dive deeper into these strategies, make sure you grab your copy of CHANGE and Business Decision Making. These aren’t just books; they are blueprints for the person you are capable of becoming.
