The Proven CHANGE Framework: 5 Habits That Actually Drive Growth

We’ve all been there. It’s Monday morning, you’re fired up, and you’ve decided that this is the week everything changes. You’re going to hit the gym, eat clean, read fifty pages a day, and revolutionize your career.

But by Wednesday? The fire is a flicker. By Friday? You’re back to the old routine, wondering why "transformation" feels like a mountain you just can’t climb.

Here’s the truth: Change isn’t a lightning bolt. It’s a brick-by-brick construction project. At Brady Young Change, we specialize in the architecture of transformation. In my flagship book, CHANGE, I break down the six pillars that govern a successful life: Communication, Habits, Attitude, Network, Goals, and Education.

Today, we’re zooming in on the "H": Habits. But we aren’t just talking about "drinking more water." We’re talking about the five core habits that tie the entire CHANGE framework together. These are the needle-movers that take you from "stuck" to "unstoppable."

The Philosophy of the Small Choice

Before we dive into the habits, you need to understand the fundamental law of growth: Transformation is the accumulation of thousands of small choices.

Think of your life as a high-performance machine. You wouldn't expect a Maserati to run on low-grade fuel and neglected maintenance. (And if you’ve seen my black Maserati Ghibli, you know I take maintenance seriously!) Your life is no different. You can't reach peak performance without a framework that supports your engine.

The CHANGE framework isn't just a list of ideas; it’s a system. And systems are powered by habits.

1. The Daily Honest Self-Check (Communication + Attitude)

High-contrast photographic treatment of a person looking into a mirror in a dimly lit, modern room. The lighting is dramatic, casting sharp shadows. The person's expression is focused and reflective. The color palette is monochrome with a single splash of vibrant orange on a digital watch face.

The first pillar of the CHANGE framework is Communication. Most people think this only means how we talk to others. In reality, the most important communication happens in the six inches between your ears.

The Habit: Spend 10 minutes every evening in an "Internal Audit."

Ask yourself three questions:

  1. Where did I win today? (Acknowledging wins reinforces a positive Attitude).

  2. Where did I drift? (Identifying when you lost focus on your Goals).

  3. What is my #1 priority tomorrow? (Giving your brain a clear directive).

You cannot grow your habits if you aren't communicating honestly with yourself. If you’re lying to yourself about your effort, you’re building your house on sand. This daily check-in ensures your internal "Attitude" remains resilient and your "Communication" stays sharp.

2. The "One-Brick" Upgrade (Habits)

In the book CHANGE, I emphasize that growth happens step by step. We often fail because we try to change everything at once. We want the whole wall, but we refuse to lay a single brick correctly.

The Habit: Choose exactly one small habit to upgrade every 21 days.

Don’t try to overhaul your diet, your sleep, and your productivity in one go. Instead:

  • Week 1-3: Focus only on drinking 3 liters of water.

  • Week 4-6: Keep the water, but now add a 15-minute morning walk.

This "One-Brick" approach utilizes the psychology of compounding. When you master one small choice, it becomes a "brick" in the larger structure of your life. Eventually, these bricks form an unshakeable foundation.

3. The Intentional Attitude Reset (Attitude)

Life is going to throw punches. Your car might break down, a client might cancel, or you might just wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Your Attitude isn't something you're born with; it's a muscle you train.

The Habit: Perform a "Mid-Day Reset."

Around 2:00 PM: when the morning coffee wears off and the afternoon slump hits: take 60 seconds to reset.

  • Breathe: Three deep, intentional breaths.

  • Reframe: Take one thing that’s stressing you out and ask, "How is this a training ground for my growth?"

This habit ensures that you are the driver of your emotions, not the passenger. It’s a core principle from my bestselling book on Business Decision Making: the best decisions are made from a place of clarity, not reactivity.

4. The Daily Network Touchpoint (Network)

Your "Network" is your net worth. But a network isn't just a list of contacts on LinkedIn; it’s a living, breathing ecosystem of relationships. If you want to grow, you need to surround yourself with high-performers.

The Habit: Send one "Value-First" message every day.

This isn't about asking for favors. It’s about contribution.

  • Send an article to a colleague that relates to their current project.

  • Text a mentor to thank them for a piece of advice they gave you six months ago.

  • Introduce two people in your circle who should know each other.

By making this a daily habit, you are constantly tending to your "Network" garden. When you eventually need support or opportunity, the roots will already be deep.

5. The 30-Minute Growth Block (Goals + Education)

The final pillars of the framework are Goals and Education. Most people set goals in January and forget them by February. Most people finish their education when they get a diploma. High-performers do neither.

The Habit: Dedicate the first or last 30 minutes of your day to your "Growth Block."

Divide this time into two parts:

  1. 10 Minutes - Goal Review: Look at your long-term roadmap. Is what you did today moving you toward that destination?

  2. 20 Minutes - Active Learning: Read a chapter of a transformational book (like CHANGE), listen to an episode of our latest podcast, or take a lesson in a new skill.

In a world that’s changing faster than ever, your "Education" must be continuous. If you aren't learning, you're decaying.

Putting the Framework into Action

Transformation doesn't require a miracle. It requires a method. By implementing these five habits, you are engaging all six pillars of the CHANGE framework every single day.

You’re communicating with yourself, building habits that compound, maintaining a resilient attitude, strengthening your network, staying focused on your goals, and furthering your education.
